In 2016 CIM Group commissioned Michael C.McMillen to create a site-specific public art project for The Lot in West Hollywood, California. The Lot is one of Hollywood’s earliest film studios dating back to 1920 when it was called Hampton Studios. A few years later it was bought by Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks and was known as Pickford-Fairbank Studio. In 1928 Charlie Chaplin joined the team and the studio was renamed United Artists.
The Lot has a central part in Hollywood’s history and appropriately enough the subject of movie making is the central content of McMillen’s artwork titled Back Lot.
